Urgent Clinic

What to expect when referred to Finnis Neurosurgery’s Urgent Clinic

Helping patients to be seen sooner and faster

What is the urgent clinic?

This clinic is available every Wednesday so that Mr Finnis can see patients that require a faster turn-around than routine appointments generally allow.

Who is the urgent clinic for?

Generally, the clinic is best for patients with a clear indication for surgery and with funding already in place. It is beneficial for patients with urgent spinal referrals, such as disc prolapse and most referrals concerning the brain.

How do you make a referral to the urgent clinic?

Referrals are made the same way as the general pathway; through your GP, specialist or physiotherapist.

What is the turnaround time after a referral has been made?

All referrals to Mr Finnis require up to date MRI imaging (less than 6 months old). If your GP or specialist has had this completed already and Mr Finnis triages the referral as urgent, generally, you will receive an appointment within 10 days.

If it is more urgent, we will call to see if you can attend earlier.

When does the urgent clinic run?

  • The clinic runs each Wednesday between 12:30 pm – 6:00 pm.
  • It is located in Mr Finnis’ rooms at St George’s Hospital.

Is health insurance compatible with the urgent clinic?

Yes, it is. Health insurance, ACC and self funding patients are welcome at all our clinics

Already have a referral?

If you already have a referral from your GP, physiotherapist, chiropractor, or osteopath, an appointment will be made for you once up-to-date imaging, usually MRI, has been completed. This is usually within 6 months.
All appointments are triaged on these results.
